Are there areas of technology that should not be investigated?
e.g. Internet and Encryption can help greedy people, and greedy governments. But it also protects free people from people who want to take power from them, as much as it protects greedy people from just laws.

Hardware to protect the copyright of digital content.

Microsoft are touting new technology which will be implemented in the actual hardware of your computer. The purpose of this is to create secure Digital Rights Management to circumvent the illegal copying/viewing of copyrighted digital content.

There will be an attempt to ensure that you pay for the enjoyment of all your digital content. But more scary is if you cannot play digital content without it being licenced to be able to be played on your computer. Then total censorship control has been given to the company/organisation that distributes those licences.
